My Process

I’ve developed a repeatable Google Analytics 4 onboarding process, although it is flexible enough that you can cherry pick if you really want I’ve found that the clients who follow these steps get the best results.

  1. Audit your current GA4 implementation
  2. Triage any issues and brief your developers on any dataLayer or other code changes required
  3. Configure your GA4 and GTM in line with current best practice
  4. Train your key stakeholders on GA4 to ensure we have a shared vocabulary, data confidence, and understand the full potential of the tool
  5. Work with your internal teams to define custom measurement plans and truly customise GA4 to your business needs

Many other consultants or agencies will put step 5 right at the start so why don’t I? In my experience this leads to unnecessary work based on assumptions around how the tool is used not the reality. It can also result in gaps in the measurement plan because without understanding the art of the possible things get missed, and even the most experienced consultant won’t know enough about your business at the beginning of the engagement to truly recommend the ideal measurement plan for you.
